“Telling their story - 100 years since the Tulsa Race Massacre”

Dr. Shanedra D. Nowell is an Associate Professor of Social Studies Education at Oklahoma State University. She taught middle and high school social studies and journalism courses before moving into higher education. As part of her work at Oklahoma State University, she directs the Secondary Education program and serves as Director of the Oklahoma State University Writing Project. Her research interests include social studies education, Holocaust education, media literacy education, content area writing, and place-based education. Her publications include research on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, digital and media literacy, social media and education, and Common Core literacies in social studies.
