The National Institutes of Health Strategic Plan for Data Science provides a roadmap for modernizing the NIH-funded biomedical data science ecosystem, and the Office of Data Science Strategy leads its implementation through collaboration with the institutes, centers, and offices across NIH. Increasing the capacity of experts in computation, data science, and related fields in the biomedical research space is an essential component of the strategic plan. We are implementing multiple strategies to enhance the data science workforce at NIH, expand the national research workforce, and engage a broader community in the biomedical and clinical research fields. Ultimately, we want to build a strong bridge between the computational and biomedical communities, to foster discoveries and improve health.
